SAP released the newest version of its highly succesfull in memory, column-oriented relational database management system SAP HANA. Bill McDermott, the CEO of SAP described this launch as the biggest launch of its business suite in two decades.
The key features of the launch include HANA in memory analytics, mobile hooks and an all new user interface. This new version aims at at bringing Hana’s real time intelligence to all parts of the business like ERP, SCM, SRM and PLM.
Along with this, another major feature is that of accesibility of the platform in all types of devices.This is very important because today we are seeing multiple platforms in the market which are capable of handling mobile devices with speed and agility.
The major drawback reported in the previous iterations of HANA was that of the complexity involved in the deployment. Along with the launch of SAP S4HANA the company mentioned that unlike previous versions,the new version would have less data footprint.
The USP that SAP is trying to communicate is that unlike other databases, where there are two databases (one for forecast and other to check what happened ) , HANA would provide such information in real time leading to make better business decsions.
Though the usage of SAP HANA among a mammoth customer base is small, the future does look bright with its new offerings.The cloud based HANA4 will be a critical product for SAP and to those business that are looking for real time Business Intelligence Solutions.
