How we help
Digital technology to transform healthcare
Healthcare organizations are leveraging significant advances in technology such as interoperability, cloud technologies, advanced analytics, and digitization to address more than half a trillion dollars of annual spending resulting from low healthcare productivity.
BTC has helped healthcare organizations adopt digital technologies in crucial healthcare solution areas such as virtual clinical trials, real-world evidence, healthcare data interoperability, and population health research.
Virtual clinical trials
Virtual clinical trials, also referred to as decentralized trials, use patient-facing technologies, such as mobile phones, iPads, and wearable devices running healthcare applications. BTC helps build the technology components used in virtual clinical trials.
Benefits of using patient-facing technologies in virtual clinical trials:
- Widen the group of clinical trial participants.
- Build cloud-native applications, and get electronic health data consent using Google Cloud's Healthcare Consent Management API and Healthcare API that work with industry-standard data like HL7v2, FHIR, and DICOM.
- Improve the quality of data and achieve integration and analysis of multi-stream data.
- Achieve greater patient-centricity to improve patient recruitment and retention.
- Drive patient motivation and overall patient experience with regular patient interactions and notifications.
- Reduce technology burden on-site personnel and patients with single gateway applications.
Real-world evidence
Healthcare organizations are increasingly collecting 'electronic Patient Reported Outcome (ePRO)' and 'electronic Performance Outcome (ePerfO)' - the real-world data used in virtual clinical trials and research studies.
FDA MyStudies-a technology platform to gather real-world data.
- For the FDA, BTC built an open-source technology platform called FDA MyStudies, leveraging Google Cloud's products such as Cloud SQL and Google Kubernetes Engine. BTC now provides services to develop apps and other technology components for research studies leveraging the MyStudies platform.
- Using the MyStudies platform, research organizations can create HIPAA-compliant, branded mobile apps for use in virtual clinical trials and real-world evidence studies and registries. The mobile apps are built on iOS ResearchKit and Android ResearchStack frameworks. Today, applications built on MyStudies are powering many research studies.
Healthcare data interoperability
To advance healthcare technology, API-driven data-sharing among systems is crucial. Modern APIs have become the standard for developers to build healthcare applications. In addition to the APIs, the implementation of open data standards such as FHIR is also critical for healthcare data interoperability.
Leverage Google Cloud's healthcare data interoperability program
- Get access to tools such as a HealthAPIx Accelerator, the Apigee API Management, and Google Cloud Healthcare API.
- Comply with the data-sharing rules advocated by the ONC and CMS.
- Understand the current status of your data, map out a path to standardization and integration.
- Achieve data interoperability to make use of the data in a secure, reliable, and compliant manner.
- Provide patients a granular view of their health data.
- Help physicians get a complete picture of their patient's health conditions and treatments.
Population health research
Population health research investigates factors that influence the health of groups of individuals or whole populations. It also includes testing and evaluation of health interventions to improve population health outcomes.
Use digital technology to aid the population health research studies
- Collect and analyze primary data using mobile and web apps.
- Integrate and analyze data from multiple sources such as wearables and sensors.
- Systematically review the research studies with insightful dashboards.
- Achieve disease surveillance, environmental monitoring, health behavior change, self-care, and much more.
Healthcare operations
Financial, legal, and administrative activities constitute the healthcare operations at a healthcare facility, be it a hospital or a specialty practice. BTC has helped healthcare organizations optimize their operations with digital solutions.
Achieve operational excellence in healthcare using digital technology solutions
- Improve the patient experience from pre-visit, treatment to post-visit.
- Comply with new regulations associated with the Affordable Care Act.
- Reduce errors in data capture.
- Achieve reduction in clinical variability.
- Reduce administrative costs.
- Reduce re-admissions.
- Use predictive analytics to manage costs.
- Improve patient-provider relations.
Care management
Care management refers to various services and activities that help patients with chronic or complex conditions manage their health. Effective care management involves improving patient care while reducing medical services required by patients.
Use digital technology to launch a comprehensive care management program.
- Pull and analyze data from EHRs, claims data, and other sources. Use analytics applications to identify patients who could benefit the most from the care management programs.
- Using mobile apps, automate and streamline tasks such as patient registration in care management programs, collect patient-reported outcomes, and drive patient engagement.
- Create patient portals for secure messaging, providing educational resources, send appointment reminders. Communicare regularly and securely with patients to help them manage their chronic conditions.
