Case Studies
What we had to accomplish
cdsi, a 62 year old, well-established company, which distributes pipes, valves and fittings, wanted to upgrade their existing BTC-built iPhone/iPad apps to house information pertaining to Valves.
The Valves section of the app had to meet the following requirements
- Provide classification of the valves by their types with description and images of each
- Present several properties of valves based on their type, size and other parameters
- Present Pressure Rating information for every kind of valve available.
- Provide a glossary to help app users understand valve-related terminology and language.
- Provide a FAQs section to cater to the users who are new to the field.
How we made it happen
BTC came up with a roadmap to upgrade the apps as desired by the client and identified some of the key aspects to be taken care of, namely:
- Revamping the existing apps to be iOS7-friendly before adding new sections to it
- Understanding and organizing cdsi’s number-heavy databases to come up with an app design that would hide the heaviness of the data while still ensuring it was all available and well-presented to the end user
- Solid UI/UX keeping in mind the data-intensive nature of the app
- Strategic memory management techniques to handle the several high-quality images the client wanted to showcase in the app
BTC’s team of business analysts, designers and techies sat together and came up with elegant solutions to each of the points listed above. One of our favorites is the fun and intuitive ‘tag-and-blurb’ UI we used to display the properties of valves. This approach helped us save loads of screen space to utilize for the intricate valve drawings.
What we built
- iPhone app covering the 4,4S, 5, 5S and 5C models
- iPad app covering the latest two versions of the iPad
- Dynamic valve dimensioning mechanism in the app
- Image Gallery within the app
- In-app database to handle complex and growing sets of data
Turn it on! The app that gives you all the Valve information you need!
To summarize, the app that BTC built has turned out to be
- High on the utility quotient as a handy reference tool
- Comprehensive and well-organized repository of pipe and valve info
- Intuitive and has a clean and elegant UI/UX
- A reason for a happy client!
