Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and improving the quality of life of those affected by these diseases.
Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation conducts a survey for participants before each of their multiple colonoscopy appointments scheduled over time. The survey is timed with the shipping of testing kits to a participant. The appointment dates are different for every participant and are subject to change. The availability of the survey in the participant mobile app has to auto-adjust itself accordingly. This meant fetching participant-specific updates from Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s Salesforce system to administer study activities with timing tailored for each participant.
BTC built ‘IBD PROdigy,’ a digital tracker tool that facilitates the collection of longitudinal patient-reported data at critical points throughout a patient’s disease course, using “FDA MyStudies” ‘Distributed Clinical Trial (DTC)’ platform as a foundation. BTC added a number of enhancements to the platform and the mobile application, such as:
Define a custom “participant properties” list with properties of interest for each study,
Populate that list from an external system (such as Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s Salesforce System) via an API, and
Provide the mobile app the ability to query properties for each participant.
The property values are then used to trigger participant-specific workflows in the mobile app. For example, for a date value property, surveys can be scheduled for the participant as a function of this date. This survey schedule gets auto-refreshed in the app if the property value changes in the external system.
IBD PROdigy was rolled out to the SPARC IBD cohort –a Foundation-supported, multi-centered, longitudinal study of a Prospective Adult Research Cohort with IBD.
The customizations allowed Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation to tailor the individual patient interactions within the mobile application, thus improving patient engagement and data sharing compliance.
The addition of the feature to the ‘MyStudies’ platform resulted in a significant enhancement in patient engagement functionality.
