[This is the first blog in a new series that covers fascinating innovations and amazing creations in the world of Mobile business and technology]

There are successful apps and then, there are INSANELY SUCCESSFUL apps.

Tom Hanks has done it again. He has hit just the right key of nostalgia.. and we are not talking movies here. It is his recently launched Typewriter app for the iPad, the Hanx Writer

Mimicking the sensation of the bygone manual typewriter, this app is Tom Hank’s ode to a machine, of which he is an avid collector. For people who love writing, the silent tap of a modern keyboard just does not measure to the reassuring, clickety-clack of the typewriter. Never mind crossing out the errors. And this app takes users right back to the comfortable feel of vintage typewriting.

The app is available for free on the app store and comes in three versions for the iPad  The basic model comes free with the app download.

Its authentic and in character, like the man himself…right down to the ding at the end of the line. For a fun twist, users can turn off the delete button option and go back to the days of ‘oops, cant erase that one’ or even turn off the cursor.

As Hanks himself admitted, while this might no be the best choice for a term paper or legal brief, it fits the bill just right for a quirkly and playful way to write your emails and notes.

The app has risen to the #1 spot and is the most popular app in the United States.

So, go on, relive the good ol’ days and if you are in a mood to indulge yourself, upgrade to the ‘Golden Touch’ typewriter ! This one gets our vote !!
