Open Source technology has always been a great source for developers trying to understand the inner workings of platforms. Its a great resource for going beyond the “getting started” phase on a new development platform. Mobile appsare no different. Here are some cool apps that can point you in the right direction.
 
Games
Stockfish Chess: has a pretty cool AI engine and decent graphics.
SpaceBubble: great for learning how to use the accelerometer in a game setting.
Doom Classic: my favourite shoot’em up game. But the code is not for the faint-hearted.
 
Productivity
Freshbooks: the open-source code is kind of dated but it still useful for the casual programmer looking to dip his/her toes into the accounting. Mover: this one is plain awesome. Just flick your files from one iPhone to another. PlainNote: great ‘getting started’ app for iPhone/iTouch. I switched to this after the notepad app started crashing my old iTouch. Works like a charm!
