Virtual Reality is something that everyone loves – kids and adults alike. The tremendous potential of virtual reality is not limited to the gaming world. From its usage in various fields, from defence applications to educational tools, virtual reality is going to change how we learn, communicate and engage with each other.
The Wikipedia definition of VR says “simulates a physical presence in the real world or an imagined world, allowing the user to interact with the world”. The biggest hurdle for this to be a “reality’ is that of the affordability and high adoptability.
As always Google comes to the rescue. Premiered in Google I/0 2014 Google Cardboard has been a great success. As of January 2016 more than 5 million Cardboard view boards have been shipped with more than 25million VR app installations being made.
Google Cardboard is very simple. The viewer is made out of low cost materials like cardboards, lenses and magnets. The Cardboard can act as a virtual reality viewer with your smartphone. Developers can build the app by Google provided software development kits.
With such huge potential Virtual reality is definitely a game changing technology. Let me know of your thoughts!
