Ever changing technology brings inevitable change to the masses. To be sustainable, every business needs to adapt itself to these changes from time to time. Enterprise Mobility, even in its evolution stage, is going through so much transformation within itself, that it is very difficult to adapt business to these changes in a short period of time.

But change is unavoidable. Each and every business has to advance itself to best meet the needs of the customer. Today, the customer is king and expects and prefers dealing with businesses through his mobile. Businesses, beware that this is his minimal expectation from the business or service you are providing. And starting from this first step, opportunities to delight the customer are always in abundance.

The early adopters of  the Dot Com bust quickly realized that a transition from a brick and mortar to a web based business model was key to surviving the business world . And they quickly grew and became highly successful and in the process, drastically changed how we live and do our business.

Thus not only should every business think strategically to engage the Mobile customer but should also alter the way carries its business. The use of mobile for business not only brings better customer engagement but also operational efficiencies and business process enhancements.

  • According to IBM 75% of Fortune 500 companies are deploying HTML5 based apps.
  • 50% of Enterprises will use hybrid cloud by 2017.
  • 24% of consumers surveyed currently use a smart phone or tablet as their primary, work-related computing device.

  • 67% of IT professionals believe that mobility will affect their business as much as or more than the Internet did in the 1990s.

Why mobility and how?

As a business entity it is important to align your strategies right. Every company has its own long-term vision and it is imperative that mobility is a part of this visualization. This is a key challenge for any organization. While upgrading, business processes, functions of each employee and deliverables are subject to modification. Thus it requires  systematic planning, timely execution and maintenance; all three being high priority tasks. Take a lesson or two from companies that had to adopt themselves when the internet entered the equation.

Security risks:

One of the biggest challenges that Enterprise mobility brings into picture is that of Security. Remember the buzz words? BYOD (Bring Your Own device), WYOD (Wear Your Own Device) they are going to be or they are already a reality in business. Workers prefer using their own device for work and pleasure, thereby making sensitive company data a high valued target for hackers. What are businesses to do this in this situation? That brings us to the third challenge.

Cloud and access management

The data security concerns that we talk about has one solution in making work related data available only in the cloud. This will drastically reduce security risks. With remote access encrypted data exchange, Remote wipe and accessibility controls the data can be controlled by the organization. The company with systematic access management is  able to provide information on need to know/Access basis thereby  drastically reducing chances of data theft or mishandling of sensitive corporate information.

Changes in the work functions, culture and deliverables

 The biggest challenge that enterprise mobility brings to organization is  changes in work culture, function of the each individual and the deliverables as a unit. The first and foremost task for any company is to train its employees to this changing environment. When the organization adopts mobility, this will ensure that the new changes will not hinder the normal operation of the organization.

OK! Which organizations should go for the enterprise mobility or which department should get it first or should everyone get it?

This is a million dollar question. Indeed every organization, regardless of its size and type faces this dilemma. In the initial phase, certain critical groups of the organization might shift into mobility (Say for example Sales). But, that being said mobility can do wonders for every facet of the organization. At the end of the day the business mantra of every organization is to minimize costs and deliver maximum value to customers and mobility has become the key step to follow in delivering on this promise.

Thus “When an organization espouses itself to enterprise mobility at strategic level and is able to implement the mobile strategy in a way that will benefit the overall growth of the company,who is there to stop you from your victory!”
